"...more Democrats and Democratic leaners are confident now (71%) than were in the past, especially compared with the 62% measured in 2002.

As a result, Democrats' confidence exceeds Republican confidence for the first time in Gallup's trend, though majorities of both groups remain confident."

I've remarked numerous times, on this forum and the old one, that what it means to be a liberal or progressive has changed radically since I was growing up in the 60s and 70s.

It used to be that those people thought for themselves. Questioned authority.

But, not no more.

These days, people who comply, submit, allow themselves to be led around by the nose are the libs, progressives.

Gallup found that. Increasingly, people who think for themselves, who have the intellectual strength to question authority...are GOPs. In this case, medical authority. But, certainly a
Also, governmental.

I guess that's how, by the time I was in my 50s, I'd turned away entirely from the Dems to be comfortable as an independent thinking, authority questioning, GOP.

And, proud of it.

Of course you accept Gallup as an authority. I am skeptical of Gallup since they stopped doing presidential election polls several cycles ago. The accuracy of election polls can be judged after the results are in.

There is no double-checking of a poll of people's trust in medical advice based on their political party affiliation.

That said, if Demmocrats trust in doctors increased and Republicans trust decreased over the last twenty years, I suspect that the GOP railing against the Affordable Care Act and Covid vaccinations has something to do with it.

    Curt,

My sense is that the GOP has become the home of the healthily cynical.

    HtS,
You are right about the GOP being home to cynics.

"...distrustful of human sincerity or integrity."

    Yup.

As opposed to blindly trusting, compliant and self-subjugating...as you Swampcult Dems are.

    Hate,
I live in an area with a lot of hippies, new agers, etc.
At this point they are basically counted among the far right.
I'm not entirely happy about it because it's exposing a lot of Christians to weird theology & practices and deceiving some.

    Interesting, georges.

  7. by HatetheSwamp on December 8, 2021 6:38 am

Y'know, georges, I wonder if the straight, compliant kids of that era grew up to be today's progressives, thinking they're walking on the wild side!!!!!?
